Nice nice nice. Yesterday I was listening to Studio Brussels, and the playlist of the last hour of 'Select' was chosen by De Standaard-reporter Sasha Van Der Speeten. I don't like his writing in that journal, but the guy definitely likes good music.

New Jay-Z has leaked, I'm holding it in high rotation. It seems the album needs some time to become better, but Jay has definitely written some very good tracks:

So saturday I went to the crazy place called Pukkelpop, fourth time in a row. It wasn't as good as other years, because I could only stay one day, so I missed fantastic gigs by Faith No More (thursday) and Fever Ray (friday).

On saturday, I was impressed by the amazing Team William. A Belgian pride already! Arctic Monkeys were good too, but I was disappointed the crowd wasn't really into their set. Also nice: Steve Aoki (the guy opened and closed his set with Warp 1.9, so no reason to be disappointed :D). Noisia were good too.

I chose some of my favorite songs from these five artists. Wonderyear III is Team William's follow up to Viva La Vida, the stadium anthem by Coldplay. The other two TW tracks were not on their debut, but they're two of their best songs yet. Then I included also my Arctic Monkeys-favorite From the ritz to the rubble and two Boilerroom-bangers: Silicon and 1967 Poem.

The title of this blogpost is a strange combination. Crookers like it loud, energetic and eclectic, and Fever Ray loves to play icecold, nordic tunes. But I wouldn't dare to hold this remix for my own, so here it is: Seven (Crookers remix)! Seven was (and is still) my favorite track on Fever Ray's fantastic, self-titled debut album. It's a shame I miss Karin Dreijer Anderson performing at Pukkelpop tomorrow...

Nice electro-bomb today: Chuckie's Let the bass kick is a perfect addition to his fantastic contribution with Silvio Ecomo which was remixed by Afrojack; Moombah! I highly recommend this two Chuckie-tunes, they're massive! Check also that Jack Beats tune, slow fidgethouse, ncei drive!

Nice! The new Simian Mobile Disco album has leaked. It's their second record, after 'Attack Decay Sustain Release' (2006). They gave us already classics like I believe (one of my all time favorite electronic tunes), Sleep deprivation, Hustler (check that video!) and It's the beat.

And it seems that this record will do the same as the first: make us dance. You already know Audacity Of Huge, the fantastic radio single featuring the lead singer of Yeasayer (incredible band!), and 10000 Horses can't be wrong, the follow up for Sleep Deprivation.

But there's more: contributions with Telepathe, Beth Ditto from The Gossip, Jamie Lidell and Alexis Taylor from Hot Chip. And underground club hit Synthesise is also on the tracklist! It sounds all very radio-friendly, it would surprise me if this wouldn't be a commercial succes.

A few songs for the road

Javelin is a Brooklyn based duo. Indeed, Brooklyn. The place we know from MGMT, Yeasayer, The Antlers and so on. These bands must 've been influences for Javelin, 'cause their music is very similar to their 'neighbours'.

Another nice band I discovered is an old project from Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst. That guy seems to have much aliases. Bright Eyes, Conor Oberst & Mystic Valley Band, Monsters Of Folk,... This band is called Desaparecidos and is much louder than his other projects. They call it post-hardcore themselves, but I think it's more garagerock and stuff... They don't exist anymore, but seem to have had a huge influence on their scene. It's like this is the same band as one of my other favorites; The Blood Brothers. It's a shame these two bands don't exist anymore...

Boys Noize - Power

New Boys Noize is called 'Power' and will be released somewhere in September. I'm curious about it. His debut album, 'Oi Oi Oi' made me bounce for one month and after that month I never really listened to it again. He made a fabulous impression on me at Pukkelpop 2007, and his set at I Love Techno later that year was even better. But then I got out of his music, maybe 'Power' can turn me into a fan again, who knows...

No no, not a new album. My caps lock should be surely on when I had such news... This song is dedicated to Harry Patch, a British veteran from the Great War 1914-1918. He died only a few weeks ago, and some time before he passed away, Radiohead wrote this song. It's beautiful.

Nothing special today. Just a few nice tunes to celebrate the summer. Offcourse it's not so nice to be behind my studybooks nowadays, but complaining about it won't help, so we carry on...

Did you already hear from the collaboration between Erol Alkan and Boys Noize? They played a floorfilling set at the German Melt festival two weeks ago, and since then everybody is awaiting their single Waves. I have a preview for you:

Now three songs from the 'Sirens'-EP by Heads We Dance. The original version is a nice pop song, but make sure you listen to the GTronic remix. A very nice one! The Don Diablo remix is not as good as the Gtronic version, but still worth a listen. It has some of the gameboy-feel from Crystal Castles, though less melodic.

Suikerrock

No daily post yesterday, 'cause I was on Suikerrock. Not for the impressive line-up, but hey: free tickets are always nice. The line-up included mainly Belgian and Dutch acts, like Jasper Erkens, Black Box Revelation, De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig, Novastar and Anouk. Only Fun Lovin' Criminals disturbed the coterie. I saw De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig, Novastar and Anouk.

It was my third DJVT-gig in one month, and everytime I get more bored. And Anouk didn't even succeed to play more good songs than DJVT. The latter only have three good songs, so you can imagine how poorly Anouk was.

But to save my evening, Novastar played an impressive set containing nearly all the best songs from their three records. Mars Needs Woman, Because, Lost & Blown Away, When The Lights Go Down On The Broken Hearted and off course the ultimate Novastar-classic Wrong. I often ask myself what would have become from this band when their old record company EMI would have done more publicity for them. If Coldplay can fill stadiums and superdomes, Novastar can do it too.

So Novastar ended (I don't count neither Anouk or Dirk Stoops, who did'nt even mix his dj-set live...) my Month Of Festivals in style. This July was amazing with Rock Werchter, Dour, Bruksellive and Suikerrock, but now back to the books for school. And looking forward to Pukkelpop (22th of august), after my exams! Rusko! Arctic Monkeys! N*E*R*D*! Team William! And so much more...

But first the exams...

My fave new band this year. Pixies meets At The Drive-In meets No Age meets the catchiest melodies around. They're touring in the US now, but by the end of october they do a few shows in London. I desperately hope they do make the trip to the continent after those shows.

'Post-Nothing' is one of the best debut albums I heard in a long time, 8 songs pure energy and fun. The 'oooooh ooooh's in the fantastic album opener The Boys Are Leaving Town and Young Hearts Spark Fire! The amazing post-teenage angst in Crazy/Forever! The hypnotising album closer I Quit Girls (imagine a repetitive distorted guitar riff, pure My Bloody Valentine, combined with the statement "after her, I quit girls", howled by desperate singer Brian King) is one of my - if it isn't - favorite tracks this year. And ever.

If I could recommend one new band this year, it would be this one. Listen to it, you'll believe me. It's not that kind of garagerock album you like for a month, and after that month you never listen to again. I'm already addicted since March, and it's only getting better and better.

Humbug

One of the first acts worldwide to gain attention of record labels via the internet. Fastest selling record ever in the UK. Fastest selling debut album ever in the UK. Mercury Prize winners. Indeed, we're talking about the Arctic Monkeys, formerly a teen hype, nowadays a stadium act.

Their highly anticipated third album 'Humbug' (release: 24th of august) comes only two years after their last ('Favourite Worst Nightmare'), but it seems like the band has been away for decades. In fact, they just took their time to write a psychedelic, wide arranged and ambitious collection of songs, produced by Queens Of The Stone Age's Josh Homme.

You might know first single Crying Lightning, which is given much airplay, but here are some more new tracks:
